Zeis Consulting Receives FAA Section 333 Exemption

Zeis Consulting 333 Exemption

I am happy to announce the approval of our FAA Section 333 exemption (Exemption # 13346 – Regulatory Docket # FAA-2015-3387) to commercially operate Small Unmanned Aircraft (sUAV) for purposes of data collection.   We will be operating quadcopters adapted with cameras to provide wide angle, close, still and video imagery primarily for purposes of, but not limited to, inspection of residential and commercial structures.

It is our intention to provide supportive services in effort to reduce the number of industry related injuries and deaths.   According to OSHA, there were 828 fall related fatalities reported in 2013 in addition to the thousands of non-fatal injuries due to what the industry refers to as the “Fatal Four.” These include falls, caught between, electrocution, and struck by incidents.

Due to the volume of work we do with catastrophic loss, we are often faced with entering into and upon structures that may no longer be structurally sound and lend themselves to increased potential for injury. The use of sUAV’s (commonly referred to as Drones), can allow us to collect data from a safer location.

We look forward to supporting not only our own efforts but those of other contractors, adjusters, agents, engineers, real estate professionals and municipalities. We will also be providing public awareness and education sessions to aid in the overall safe handling of sUAV’s whether flown commercially or recreationally.  Many sUAV/Drone incidents are preventable and do not have to result in personal injury if properly handled and maintained.  For more information regarding  flight safety see the Know Before You Fly brochure which highlights important details you need to know.

Additionally, we are committed to continuing education for our own operators and support personnel and have adopted the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s (AUVSI) code of conduct in addition to working within the regulatory confines of the Federal Aviation Administration.

If we prevent even one injury we will have accomplished our mission.
